Annotations:
"Rhapsody on a Jasmine Flower" was my Master's Thesis piece at Columbia.
Didn't seem like anybody was going to play it, so I decided to give it
a whirl myself. Bits of the Chinese tune "Jasmine Flower" are
woven throughout. "Galaxians", campy as it is, is my tribute to space opera
movie music. Try as I might to resist, the Superman theme still gets me,
so this is my take on the Star Warsy style. "Jovian Crepuscule" (or "Jovian
Preschool" as Shi-Ling has it) was my Bachelor's thesis. "The Founding
of Narnia" (from the first book of the series) was commissioned and performed
by the Westchester Philharmonic for a children's concert. "The Painter"
was created for the 1996 Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, and is the soundtrack to a video featuring
performance artist Denny Dent doing an Einstein portrait. Finally, "Seance"
was commissioned by the Greenwich Sumphony, also for a children's concert.
The electronic portion is made of sounds submitted by scores of 5th & 6th
graders. Ditto for Narnia.
